JIBITI Mission, Vision, Values, and Mandate

JIBITI is more than a platform; it is a community-led ecosystem designed to empower marginalized youth across Africa and the diaspora. As a flagship program of the Youth Initiative Foundation (YIF), JIBITI operates with a clear mandate to bridge the gap between grassroots lived experiences and social justice leadership.

1. Our Vision

To foster a trusted, resilient, and connected community ecosystem rooted in dignity, solidarity, and collective care.

We envision a world where young people from the most underserved backgrounds possess the power to lead systemic change and own their narratives.

2. Our Mission

To provide a secure platform for marginalized African youth to connect, support one another, develop leadership skills, and co-create initiatives that advance social and environmental justice in their communities.

3. Core Values

Our values are the "rules of engagement" for our community. Every member commits to upholding these principles:

  • Safety & Confidentiality: We protect each other’s privacy and security above all else. This is the cornerstone of our safe space.

  • Intersectionality: We recognize that our members face multiple, overlapping forms of marginalization (linked to economic status, disability, gender, and geography) and support the "whole person."

  • Co-Creation: We build together. Every member is a contributor, not just a beneficiary.

  • Collective Action: We achieve more through shared goals than through individual effort.

  • Pan-African Solidarity: We are united across borders by our identity and commitment to each other’s liberation.

  • Dignity: Every member deserves unconditional respect, regardless of their background or current circumstance.

4. Our Mandate

The JIBITI mandate defines our primary objectives. We exist to:

  1. Promote Belonging: Create peer connections among youth who are often excluded from mainstream spaces.

  2. Strengthen Wellbeing: Facilitate personal safety and mental wellness through mutual support systems.

  3. Provide Emergency Assistance: Manage accountable systems for crisis support and social welfare.
  4. Exchange Expertise: Enable members to share professional skills to support social causes.

  5. Drive Climate Justice: Develop youth leadership specifically focused on environmental stewardship and resilience.

5. Thematic Pillars

To fulfill our mandate, JIBITI focuses its activities within seven key pillars:

  • Community Support & Social Inclusion
  • Well-being, Safety & Emergency Assistance
  • Capacity Strengthening & Skills Exchange
  • Leadership Development & Civic Engagement
  • Advocacy, Equity & Social Justice
  • Knowledge Sharing, Research & Learning
  • Environmental Stewardship & Climate Justice

Why These Matter to You

Understanding our Mission and Values is the first step toward becoming a Member in Good Standing. These principles guide how we resolve conflicts, distribute resources (such as the Emergency Outreach Clinic), and represent our movement to the world.

Member Note: If you see any activity within the community that contradicts these values, it is your responsibility as a Community Steward to report it to the Community Coordinator or via our secure feedback channels.
