FAQs on Program Eligibility
JIBITI is specifically designed for young people from marginalized and underserved backgrounds. To be eligible for the Member or Affiliate tiers, you must:
- Be a citizen of an African Union (AU) Member State.
- Be within the primary youth demographic (typically ages 18–35).
- Demonstrate a commitment to the community values of Co-Creation and Collective Care.
You are eligible! We have a specific category for the African Diaspora. Whether you are a "Resident Citizen" (living in an AU state) or a "Diaspora Citizen" (living abroad), you can join as long as you hold citizenship of an AU member state.
The AU currently consists of 55 Member States covering the entire African continent. This includes nations across all five regions: North, South, East, West, and Central Africa.
- Note: If you are unsure of your country's status, you can check the official AU list during your application process.
No. Membership is individual. You do not need to be part of a non-profit or a youth group to apply. We welcome students, professionals, activists, and freelancers alike.
We take an intersectional approach to marginalization. This includes, but is not limited to, young people living with disabilities, those navigating economic hardship, individuals living with HIV, displaced persons, and those from groups that face systemic social exclusion.
No. While the JIBITI community is primarily focused on youth and all our activities are youth-centered and youth-led, we welcome individuals of any age to join. We believe that the development and empowerment of marginalized youth require a multi-generational effort.
Whether you are a young person looking for support or an experienced professional of any age looking to contribute your expertise, mentorship, or resources, there is a place for you in our community. Members over the age of 35 typically play vital roles in mentorship, advisory capacities, and sustainable community support.
Yes. Eligibility is based on citizenship, not the current political status of the state government. Even if a member state is under temporary suspension by the AU, its citizens remain eligible to apply for JIBITI.
