General Questions About JIBITI

What exactly is JIBITI?

JIBITI is a private community program managed by the Youth Initiative Foundation (YIF). It serves as a secure ecosystem for marginalized youth across Africa and the diaspora to connect, co-create social justice initiatives, and lead environmental actions. It is an intentional space for those who want to move from being "passive participants" to "strategic architects" of change.

Is JIBITI a non-profit organization?

JIBITI itself is a program, not a separate legal entity. It is owned and operated by the Youth Initiative Foundation (YIF), which is a registered youth-centered organization. Membership in JIBITI does not mean you are an employee or director of YIF; it means you are a part of our community network.

Who can join JIBITI?

Membership is open to young people (primarily ages 18–35) from marginalized and underserved communities who are citizens of African Union (AU) member states. We also have an Ally Tier for non-African international partners who wish to support our systems and mentor our members.

Is JIBITI a "beneficiary" program?

No. JIBITI is a co-creation space. While we offer support systems (like our Emergency Outreach Clinic), the community is designed for people who want to contribute their skills, time, and ideas to collective projects. If you are looking for a space to lead and build, JIBITI is for you.

Is it safe to join?

Safety is our core value. We use a 9-step vetting process, encrypted data storage, and a strict Code of Conduct to protect our members. We also allow the use of aliases/pseudonyms within the community platforms so that your participation does not have to be linked to your legal identity in public spaces.

What are the thematic areas JIBITI works on?

We focus on seven key pillars:

  1. Community Support & Social Inclusion
  2. Well-being & Emergency Assistance
  3. Capacity Strengthening (Skills Exchange)
  4. Leadership & Civic Engagement
  5. Advocacy & Social Justice
  6. Research & Knowledge Sharing
  7. Environmental Stewardship & Climate Justice

How much does it cost?

To keep our digital infrastructure secure, we charge a one-time registration fee. We also offer Affiliate and Ally tiers for those who wish to pay annual dues to sustain our Emergency Support programs.

Can I leave the community at any time?

Yes. We respect your "Right to be Forgotten." You can request an exit at any time, and your personal data will be permanently deleted from our records within 5-7 business days.
